La monture est une des pièces essentielles d'un télescope dont elle constitue la base au sens propre. Il est donc important que celle-ci soit aussi solide et stable que possible pour être capable de supporter le tube optique du télescope sans lui transmettre trop de vibrations. Cela vaut d'autant plus pour l'astrophotographie.
Les montures azimutales ont 2 axes : le télescope se déplace en latitude et en azimut. Les montures équatoriales, ont 4 axes dont 2 pour pour la mise en station : le télescope se déplace en ascension droite et déclinaison. Ceci est impératif pour l'astrophotographie avec de longs temps d'exposition. Avec une monture photo, vous pouvez utiliser un appareil photo avec des objectifs interchangeables. C'est idéal pour le voyage!
Le terme GoTo désigne un pilotage informatisé qui facilite la recherche de l'objet souhaité.
